Castel del Monte
World Heritage Site UNESCO

Here at the foot of the Murgian mountains, to the south of Barletta, in a landscape full of olive trees, almond trees and vines, you can enjoy exquisite dairy products such as the famous mozzarelle and butter products.
Although its origins are uncertain, it has been an important religious community centre since Byzantine times. Markets and fairs were held there under the Swabians, and it became Federico II's favourite residence. The cathedral, a Romanesque building rebuilt in the 15th c., contains the tombs of two of Federico II's wives and the Holy Thorn from the crown of Jesus, donated by Beatrice d'Angi.
